Our reason for being

She for She is a social enterprise on a mission to empower women, girls, and their communities by producing and distributing affordable, reusable menstrual pads. We believe no one should miss school, work, or opportunities because of their period — and we’re working to make sustainable menstrual health a reality across the African continent.

Our mission

What is she for she about?

Our pads are produced in Kampala by local women and men, creating fair jobs, skills training, and economic opportunity. Through partnerships with organisations and companies, we donate pads to schoolgirls — so no girl is left behind because of her period.

Our reusable pads reduce waste and protect the environment, while our comic-based education tools break taboos and empower both girls and boys with knowledge and pride.

The Pads

Made by hand in uganda

She for She Pads produces high-quality reusable pads by hand in Kampala, designed for comfort, hygiene, and long-term use. Made from soft, upcycled textiles, each pad lasts up to 3 years, offering an affordable, eco-friendly alternative to disposables.

Each pack includes day and night pads to suit different flows. Day pads are slim and breathable, perfect for school or work, while night pads are longer and more absorbent for overnight protection.

The set comes in a discreet, waterproof wet bag for easy carrying and storage. Fast-drying, leak-resistant, and easy to fold, our pads stay securely in place even during long walks or active days — helping girls feel safe, clean, and confident.

Our founder

MARY CONSOLATA NAMGAMBE

Mary Consolata Namagambe is an unapologetic feminist, girls’ rights advocate, and law student. Her path to founding She for She grew from years of activism in Denmark, particularly around issues affecting people of African descent.

She founded UVU – Foreigner Guides Foreigner, a volunteer-based initiative supporting immigrants and ethnic minorities in accessing higher education in Denmark. The project connects youth with mentors from diverse backgrounds to guide them through educational opportunities and help them reach their potential.

As an Afro-Danish woman, Mary has used her platform to challenge racism and promote equity, gaining recognition through national media and public speaking engagements across Denmark.

“Through my work, I also became familiar with injustices which women face globally, especially those in poverty stricken nations and communities. Many of them lack access to necessary items such as hygiene and menstrual products.”

The team

The people behind she for she

Currently, all reusable pads from She for She are produced by Ugandan women in Kampala Kireka. Through this, we are able to create and offer jobs to Ugandan women as empowerment is at the core of our objective. The women then receive necessary training and obtain skills in order to produce our reusable pads and are able to sustain their families through the work.
